PROCESS TECHNICIAN – PAINT

:$24.47 per hour minimum (negotiable)

:6-month contract position (extendable)

:Afternoons (3:00pm to 11:30pm Mon to Thurs / 3:00pm to 9:00pm Fri)
Job Summary:

Reporting to the department Supervisor, the Process Technician – Paint will be responsible for preparing parts for the paint process and painting. Tasks include, but are not limited to, masking, preparing and applying primers and paint finishes to landing gear parts.
Responsibilities:


•Masking, unmasking and solvent cleaning of parts
•Follows paint sketches for masking
•Paints parts manually with primer, topcoat, corrosion preventative compounds as required
•Touches-up and repair existing finishes as needed
•Mixes and prepares finishes, checking paint thickness using thickness meter
•Maintains and makes minor repairs to spray paint equipment
•Identifies causes and recommends corrective actions for sags, runs, etc.
•Conducts Tape 250 Adhesion tests
•Changes paint booth filters in accordance with scheduled maintenance
•Applies sealant to bushing flanges and components per applicable sketches
•Maintains shelf life of all consumable products and properly disposes of such products as required
•Maintains traceability documentation for all aircraft components
•Understands and correctly applies engineering paint and finish specifications, engineering drawings, internal procedures and paint technique sheets
•Verifies and matches serial numbers to parts
•Follows all environmental guidelines for handling and disposal of toxic materials
•May be asked to train co-workers in general processing procedures as necessary
•Follows good housekeeping, 5S, and safety practices applicable to the department
•Perform other duties as required Masking/Sealing
•Masks and unmasks parts as per engineering sketches
•Maintains satisfactory levels of consumable materials and notifies supervisor when new stock is required.
•Assists to maintain paint shop and booth, cleaning up waste as required Fitting Table
•Checks paperwork for missing operations and/or stamps. Check part for incomplete operations
•Applies corrosion preventative compounds
•Operates paint stripping equipment, perform brush-alodine operations as certified
•Installs lube fittings, placards, rub strips etc., and primes with appropriate grease as per engineering requirements
•Ensures all parts are properly cleaned
•Performs light assembly work (screws, bolts, nameplates etc.)
•Touches-up sealant and/or paint damage as required
•Maintains inventory of supplies Lots
•Strip small part finishes using plastic abrasive media, chemical paint strippers, and degreaser, upon request
•Prepare lot pieces for paint; including sealing, masking and hanging parts on racks
•Works to specific tolerances from blueprints and overhaul manuals
•Light assembly; including installation of lube fittings, application of corrosion preventer, etc.
•Liaison with Production Control to verify lot status, monitor and solve problems, etc.
•Visual inspection of lot pieces for quality prior to assembly
•Process parts/lots as per work instructions and may include the following (but not limited to): -Strip small part finishes using plastic abrasive media in accordance to work statements -Degrease as required per work instructions -Prepare lot pieces for paint; including sealing, masking and hanging parts on racks and hooks in accordance to work statements and paint books -Clean and inspect of hydraulic pipes as required -Track movement of parts throughout process maintaining traceability documentation for all life-limited components -Light assembly; including installation of lube fittings, application of corrosion preventer, etc. -Alodine components as required per work instructions -Inspect components as required -Liaison with both internal and external customers as required
Qualifications:


•High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one (1) year industrial experience, previous painting experience an asset; or equivalent combination of education and experience
•Technical aptitude and ability to read drawings/specifications
•One year proven mechanical background and experience
•Aviation experience preferred
•Demonstrated teamwork skills
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Self-starter with initiative and the ability to work independently
•Must be able to work shifts as required
